The Star Wars universe and the MCU are nearly one in the same these days when it comes to the amount of new content that’s coming out. We’ve always expected this from the MCU, which has been ramping it up in recent years when it comes to movies. But now, with Disney+, they can create a plethora of new series as well. And they’re doing exactly that.

Star Wars started out small in this area. It was just The Mandalorian, which was Disney+’s flagship show when the streaming platform first hit the scene. In fact, The Mandalorian went two whole seasons being the only Star Wars live-action series around. But in December 2020, Lucasfilm revealed the bigger plan: They had several live-action shows in the works, as well as animated features, movies and more.

So what does Lucasvilm have in store? Here’s what’s been announced for Disney+.

Star Wars live-action spinoffs

Currently, there are six live-action Star Wars spinoff series in various stages of production. Note that this does not include any of the animated features, nor the next season of The Mandalorian since the show is no longer new. The upcoming shows include:

  • The Book of Boba Fett
  • Andor
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Ahsoka
  • The Acolyte
  • Lando

Both The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka are spinoffs of spin-offs; they’re both connected to The Mandalorian. A third show, Rangers of the New Republic, was going to join them, but has since been put on ice, at least for now.

Both Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will have a hand in the creation of the series. The other four series won’t be connected to The Mandalorian. But since it’s all Star Wars, they’re all connected anyway.

Thankfully, we aren’t too far off from seeing these new projects. The Book of Boba Fett will be premiering this December on Diseny+. And then, in 2022, we’ll get Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi, along with season 3 of The Mandalorian. The rest of the Star Wars shows currently have no premiere date, but they’ll probably be set for 2023 and beyond.
