8. Finn series

If there’s one character in the Star Wars sequels who didn’t really get his due, it’s John Boyega’s Finn. Finn, for the most part, had an interesting story. He was taken from his family as a young boy and trained to be a stormtrooper in the First Order. That’s a lot of emotional trauma and a story worth hearing more about.

According to the rumor round-up from The Den of Nerds, a Finn series is allegedly in the works. And it’s not something I would be opposed to.

In the sequel series, I always thought we would get more character growth from Finn. How do you recover from growing up in a system that trained him for war? Can you recover from that?

Unfortunately, the Force dyad story about Rey and Kylo Ren took up too much of the narrative bandwidth, and so there was no room to explore the complexities of Finn. And before you go saying, “But there are no complexities to Finn,” that’s exactly my point. He wasn’t allotted the time to actually develop into anything more than the sidekick.

And true, sometimes that’s just the fate of a sidekick. But with someone who has such a dynamic background, I think he deserves a bit more screen time. And we haven’t even touched on the fact that Finn is Force-sensitive. Unfortunately, the script couldn’t even allow him the chance to express that in the final film. Finn could definitely benefit from a WandaVision-style upgrade. Wanda Maximoff went from being a minor character to many fans’ favorite Avenger after her solo series. With a little more screen time and care, any character can be built up.
