Melissa McCarthy as Molly Weasley
The original Harry Potter films cast a number of well-known actors and actresses in the series’ adult roles, and we’d like to add Melissa McCarthy as one of the big names to appear in the franchise. And we have the perfect role in mind for her: Molly Weasley, the matriarch of the very large, very ginger Wizarding family.
McCarthy would bring some much-needed humor to a Harry Potter reboot, particularly heading into the latter half of the story. We know she can be quick-witted and off her rocker when she needs to be, and she will need to be when dealing with Fred and George, and even the Golden Trio. We can already picture her yelling at the twins and scolding Ron while pampering Harry — and fans can count on her to deliver that “Not my daughter” line at the end of Deathly Hallows with charm and passion.
But while comedy has become McCarthy’s trademark, the actress has also proven she can get serious when the scene calls for it, and that will be necessary as Molly deals with her family being in constant danger, and especially when she loses some of the people she cares most about. The role of Mrs. Weasley has plenty of range, but so does McCarthy — and that’s why she’s our number-one pick.
