Iain Armitage as Ron Weasley

Best known for his work on Young Sheldon, Iain Armitage has the right amount of acting know-how and charm to play Harry Potter’s best friend Ron Weasley. Plus he can pull of the red hair, which is a must for anyone joining the Weasley family. And while Armitage is American, his father was born in Scotland, so he has some European roots that could come in handy when playing out this most British of fantasy tales.

For someone so young, Armitage has a ton of experience. Even outside his role as Young Sheldon on Young Sheldon, he’s appeared on the HBO series Big Little Lies, in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and has a YouTube career reviewing live theater. Hiring child actors can be risky because you can’t always tell if they’ll be up to the job. That won’t be a problem for Armitage.

Still, Armitage is very young and will need to prove himself in the role. But Ron is exactly the kind of long-running, slow-burning part that an actor can grow into and make sing. Armitage clearly has talent; this role would let him develop it, discovering himself as the show goes on and surprising us along the way.
