Rosamund Pike narrates audiobook version of first The Wheel of Time novel
By Dan Selcke
Amazon’s lavish adaptation of The Wheel of Time — Robert Jordan’s 14-book strong epic fantasy series — comes out next month, and the company is doing everything they can to hype it. That means getting star Rosamund Pike to record an audiobook version of the first novel in the series, The Eye of the World.
Pike has done audiobook work before, including classics like Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, so she has the experience. Of course, The Eye of the World has a good deal more characters and voices to remember, not to mention all the tricky-to-pronounce names. It’s also huge; the audiobook will be 30 hours long.
“It is such an honor to be narrating a brand new audiobook version of The Eye of the World,” she said in a statement. “I’m excited to bring The Wheel of Time series to life in a different way once again. The Wheel of Time is an especially great series for audiobook listeners to immerse themselves in, and I reveled in voicing the robust collection of unique characters…the magnitude of Robert Jordan’s imagination in creating this incredible series is simply astonishing.”
And that’s just the first book! If it takes off Pike could be in the recording booth for months on end doing the rest of the series.
When does The Wheel of Time come out?
In the book, Pike will play all the characters. On the show she plays Moiraine, an Aes Sedai sorceress who comes to the sleepy Two Rivers region and encounters a group of young people who may be key to the fate of the world.
The Eye of the World audiobook comes out on November 16; you can preorder the Audible version here. The show premieres on November 19, just a few days later; good luck getting through the whole thing by then!
