In honor of Disney+ Day on November 12, Star Wars fans got their official first look at the highly-anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series. And though it’s not the first trailer many had been hoping for, we at least have a glimpse at what’s to come with a behind-the-scenes featurette.

It goes without saying that fans of the galaxy far, far away were ecstatic at the news that not only would Ewan McGregor be reprising his role as the titular character in this new Disney+ show, but that Hayden Christensen would be back as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.

In the new teaser released today, McGregor and director Deborah Chow talk about how exciting the return of such a fan-favorite character is, teasing what Obi-Wan will be up to in the series. Set 10 years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, we’ll be seeing the Jedi Master in “quite a dark time,” according to Chow.

For whatever reason, Disney decided not to share the special look on their social media accounts, and instead, but you can check it out on Disney+ here. However, it has been re-posted on YouTube, so you can conveniently watch it below.

On top of the fun teases we get from McGregor and Chow, this clip also shows concept art depicting Obi-Wan fighting against Darth Vader. Of course, this is the moment fans are most looking forward to. The image was leaked this week and made the rounds on the internet, hyping up Star Wars fans across the globe.

“We couldn’t tell the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi without addressing Anakin or Vader,” Chow says in the clip, and she’s absolutely correct.

Obi-Wan Kenobi release date

Unfortunately, we didn’t get the release date for Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ Day, but we at least know it’s coming at some point in 2022. The good news is McGregor confirmed at the Emmy Awards in September that filming was completed.

The streamer has a stacked lineup when it comes to Star Wars, as fans should expect The Mandalorian season 3 and Andor to debut in 2022 as well. And The Book of Boba Fett, of course, premieres this December on Disney+.

Fans are still itching for the first trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi, but hopefully this special look teaser is enough to hold everyone over… for now.

Next. Disney+ is adapting The Spiderwick Chronicles for TV. dark
