Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is doing reshoots for six weeks, which is a long time. Benedict Cumberbatch breaks it down.

The other week, we learned that the next Doctor Strange movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, was undergoing “significant” reshoots that will last six weeks. Reshoots are pretty common in Hollywood, but that’s an especially long period, which had some fans wondering if there were problems on set.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Doctor Strange himself, set the record straight while talking to Empire: it ends up the reshoots are to go back and do things the team couldn’t do originally because of the COVID-19 pandemic:

"We’re in the middle of reshoots and we’re working incredible hard to make a schedule work to realize the full potential of the film — bits we want to do better, but also bits that were just impossible to do on the day because logistics, COVID, etc. We were so delayed in production, because of that. Luckily, not during production too much. Although everything is just a little slower."

With how careful Marvel is with its longterm plans, it was always hard to believe that there was some big story problem on the set of Doctor Strange 2. Plus, they have veteran superhero/horror director Sam Raimi at the helm making sure everything goes smoothly.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still scheduled to come out on May 6, 2022.

Next. A new Spider-Man trilogy with Tom Holland is coming. dark
