Filming Uncharted “absolutely broke” Tom Holland

Between playing Spider-Man in the MCU and Nathan Drake in Uncharted, Tom Holland is becoming the ultimate action man. This year has proved one of his most prolific yet, as he’s been in Chaos Walking, Cherry, and of course Spider-Man: No Way Home. Clearly Holland likes his work, although the filming process can be exhausting.

Take Uncharted, for instance. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Uncharted is based on the bestselling video game franchise from Sony. It follows Nathan Drake (Holland), who embarks on a perilous quest alongside Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to uncover the greatest treasure never found. Check out the trailer:

Just like the video games, the movie features plenty of mind-blowing stunts. It looks to be a real spectacle. And while Holland is well acquainted with action-packed movies from his time as Peter Parker, he wasn’t ready for the number of physical stunts Uncharted would require. “I never realized how lucky I am that Spider-Man wears a mask, because when he’s bouncing around and flying from buildings, that’s all CG,” he told GQ. “In Uncharted it’s just me in a henley and cargo pants. That film absolutely broke me.”

Holland is only 25 and in great shape, but he’s already worried that his fitness isn’t what it was, especially compared to the excitable 19-year-old that first landed the role of Peter Parker. “I was going to the gym in the morning like, ‘Oh, my God, I must have torn something in my leg,’ and the guys were like, ‘You haven’t, you’re just tired and you’re getting older.’”

By the time filming had concluded, Holland had developed tendinitis and hurt all over. Hopefully the movie is worth the pain he’s endured. “This is that moment of, like, ‘Can Tom Holland stand up on his own and be a leading man?’” he said. “I know that makes me sound like a dick for saying that. But for me it is, ‘Can I do it without the Lycra?’”

Uncharted premieres on February 18, 2022. If it’s a big success, there’s plenty of other Uncharted games with great stories to tell, so we could be on the verge of yet another “cinematic universe.”

Tom Holland is unsure about his future as Spider-Man

Spider-Man is one of the most beloved characters in Marvel’s roster, so it only makes sense that the MCU will want to keep Holland around as long as possible. I mean, they managed to keep Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America) around for several movies. so why not Tom Holland? I’m sure almost every fan wants to see him continue his journey for many years to come, but Holland has his own ideas.

“Maybe it is time for me to move on,” he told GQ. “Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life.”

"If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong."

For now, however, he’s about to see his biggest adventure as Spider-Man hit theaters. Spider-Man: No Way Home premieres on December 17, and promises to be the Marvel event of the year. You don’t want to miss it!
