“The greatest singers aren’t necessarily opera singers, they just have soul,” said Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage during a visit to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Dinklage followed that profound statement with a fabulous performance of “Your Name” from his upcoming film Cyrano.

I already knew Dinklage was beyond talented, but his voice during this performance is something else. He plays Cyrano de Bergerac, who pines for the beautiful Roxanne, convinced that his love will never be returned. I was certainly in my feels watching Dinklage sing his heart away, which only increases my hype for the movie, which is set to premiere in January.

Watch for yourself below:

Peter Dinklage played Cyrano on stage before bringing him to film

From October-December of 2019, Dinklage starred alongside Hamilton’s Jasmine Cephas Jones in the off-Broadway version of Cyrano, so it’s wonderful to see a full-circle moment with him playing the character on film. Dinklage’s wife Erica Schmidt wrote and directed the 2019 stage play from which this Joe Wright-directed film was adapted.

The film portrays Cyrano as a “differently ‘other’ de Bergerac” who attempts to woo Roxanne (Haley Bennett) for his nervous and timid friend Christian (Kelvin Harrison). It’s an old story and as heartbreaking as they come. Cyrano is a poetic romantic who can’t speak his beautiful words directly to the woman he loves, so he puts them in the mouth of another.

You can see Dinklage play Cyrano on the big screen when Cyrano is released on December 31.
