Cobie Smulders joins cast of Marvel’s Secret Invasion series

Cobie Smulders has officially joined the cast of Secret Invasion on Disney+, according to Variety. This is a super exciting announcement for multiple reasons. The cast is already stacked with impressive names, including the returns of Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Ben Mendelsohn (Skrull Talos). Not to mention that Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke are also on board, but we don’t know who they’ll be playing as of yet.
I’m not sure what this series has in store for us, but it is going to be epic.
Smulders will reprise her role as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, who we’ve seen alongside Jackson in The Avengers, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
What is Secret Invasion about?
Not much is known about the plot of Secret Invasion, but the comic book storyline ran in 2008 and involves an invasion of Earth by the Skrulls. These alien shapeshifters, in the comics at least, replaced the Marvel Universe superheroes over the years before the invasion.
This made for a wild storyline in which trust was a luxury that could simply not be afforded. Now picture that scenario with the aforementioned cast. Can you see how epic this is going to be?!
Marvel’s website gives the following synopsis for the Secret Invasion comics:
"While in the grips of paranoia, Earth’s mightiest heroes have to band together to fight off an armada of Skrull ships carrying an army of super-charged alien warriors! Traitors are exposed and lives are lost as the shape-shifting zealots lay claim to the planet, and only by compromising their ideals do the heroes stand a chance!"
There is no set premiere date as of yet for Secret Invasion, but we can only remain optimistic that it will be sometime in 2022!
