Egwene, Perrin and the Whitecloaks

In the show: The traveling Tinkers, accompanied by Egwene and Perrin, finally approach Tar Valon, but not before being halted by a group of Whitecloaks led by Questioner Eamon Valda. Things get heated when Valda spots Egwene and Perrin, whom he recognizes after meeting them on the road in Episode 2. The Tinkers stand strong against the Children of the Light while Egwene and Perrin try to flee, assisted by Aram. Unfortunately, Aram is knocked unconsciousness and Egwene and Perrin are captured.

Brought before Questioner Valda, Perrin is tortured in an attempt to force Egwene to demonstrate her ability to channel. They can hear the wolves howling fiercely outside the Whitecloak camp. In his anguish, Perrin’s eyes turn a golden-yellow.

Later, Egwene distracts Valda with a small weave of fire as she disintegrates the ropes holding Perrin. While Valda is terrified by Perrin’s new golden eyes, Egwene stabs him in the back. The two make their escape as wolves run rampant throughout the camp. They are attacking only the Whitecloaks, and Perrin knows they’ll leave the two of them be.

In the books: After a bit of travel, the Tinkers decide to head in another direction. Perrin, Egwene and the wolfbrother Elyas go off on their own, but are chased by a flock of ravens into an Ogier Stedding. All the while, Perrin struggles with his growing ability to communicate and sense the wolves around him.

Later that night, the three spot a group of Whitecloaks setting up camp inside the Stedding, which is where Ogier live or have lived. They try to hide in the darkness but are eventually caught. In the middle of the disaster, a wolf Perrin has come to know as Hopper appears. He urges Perrin to run and begins to kill the Whitecloaks. But when Perrin feels Hopper die, he blacks out in a rage.

Perrin wakes in a tent, tied up and remembering little from the night before. In his rage, he killed two Whitecloaks and will soon be hanged. Egwene is alive and with him, but they are now captives of the Captain Commander of the Children of the Light (Whitecloaks), Geofram Bornhald. The zealous man questions Perrin and Egwene, trying to determine whether they are Darkfriends. Eventually, Perrin and Egwene are found and saved by Moiraine, Lan, and Nynaeve, leaving the Whitecloak encampment in a state of chaos.

Jain Farstrider and the Karatheon Cycle

In the show: In the library at the inn in Tar Valon, Rand picks up a book with the title “Karaethon Cycle.” There also appears to be a dragon on the bottom of one of the pages. While talking with the Loial, Rand mentions that Egwene’s favorite book as a child were tales from The Travels of Jain Farstrider.

In the books: The Karaethon Cycle is a compilation of all the known prophecies that explain how the Dragon will be Reborn. These prophecies, however, were written in the ancient Old Tongue and aren’t always entirely accurate. The book is often seen as dangerous and banned in a few kingdoms.

The Travels of Jain Farstrider is probably the most popular book in The Wheel of Time universe. It recounts Jain’s extensive travels as he ventures into mysterious lands like Shara and beyond the Aiel Waste. Jain Farstrider himself was a legendary adventurer, and an inspiration for many children to leave their remote villages.
