Silent Night, Deadly Night

“You’ve made it through Halloween, now try and survive Christmas.” Now if that isn’t a tagline for a scary Christmas movie, I don’t know what is! This 1984 psychological slasher movie truly brings together the horror of Halloween and the joy of Christmas. Although the main character isn’t feeling too joyful.

Silent Night, Deadly Night follows a young man suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after watching his parents get murdered on Christmas Eve by a man dressed as Santa Claus. Can you imagine what it must have been like to run into Santa Claus every year at the mall?

Not only did the main character watch his parents get murdered, but following their death he was sent to a Catholic orphanage where he was abused. Poor ol’ Billy had a very difficult and traumatic childhood that transformed him into a beast of an adult. Around the holidays, he has a breakdown, embraces the terror of his childhood and goes on a murder spree wearing a Santa suit.

And that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg with this movie. So go ahead and add it to your list of scary Christmas movies!
