Edward Scissorhands
Ah, yes, Edwards Scissorhands. This particular movie isnât really scary (unless you find a man with scissors for hands scary, and we wouldnât blame you) but it is gothically weird. And because itâs made by Tim Burton, you know it will have some form of fantasy or horror element.
The story begins with a scientist (Vincent Price) building an artificial human being, one left incomplete upon the scientistâs death. The man, played by Johnny Depp, has giant scissors for hands. But his appearance doesnât scare off suburban housewife Peg (Dianne Wiest), who gives Edward a home and introduces him to his first love, Peg (Winona Ryder).
The story of Edward Scissorhands hits you in the feels in a way that I canât quite explain. Edwardâs appearance may be horrifying, but his kind nature and gentle heart bely his visage. Heâs as sweet and genuine as they come; the real monsters are the close-minded townsfolk who are frightened of him.
This is a story about an outcast finding a home for himself, and if that doesnât embody the holiday spirit then I donât know what will.
Edward Scissorhands is available to stream on Hulu.
