As the guy behind The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, filmmaker Mike Flanagan has made quite a name for himself in the world of horror, and his collaboration with Netflix will continue next year with a new adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe classic The Fall of the House of Usher, a short story published all the way back in 1839. It starts with an unnamed character visiting the crumbling house of his friend Roderick Usher. No spoilers beyond that point, but things get horrific.
Fans of Flanagan were already looking forward to this project, but now we have another major reason to get excited. According to a series of tweets shared by Flanagan this week, Star Wars alum Mark Hamill is officially part of the cast!
The Fall of the House of Usher cast
The Luke Skywalker actor took the time to celebrate the news on his Twitter account as well, noting that he’s now able to cross working with Flanagan off his bucket list. Though we don’t know much about Hamill’s, Flanagan said that he’s “playing a character surprisingly at home in the shadows.”
Joining Hamill in the upcoming series is a long, long list of recognizable faces, including many longtime collaborators of the horror director.
Fans can expect to see Flanagan’s wife Kate Siegel appear in the show, along with Rahul Kohli, Henry Thomas, Samantha Sloyan, Crystal Balint, Matt Biedel, Michael Trucco and Annabeth Gish, all of whom just starred in Midnight Mass on Netflix. Other notable stars include Trucco’s Battlestar Galactica co-star Mary McDonnell.
Though this big casting update is certainly awesome, there’s a few more Mike Flanagan projects to enjoy before The Fall of the House of Usher. The Midnight Club, Flanagan’s next Netflix series, is set to premiere sometime in 2022. It’s an adaptation of a YA book of the same name by Christopher Pike. Along with actors from Flanagan’s usual stable, it’ll star A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Heather Langenkamp.
That said, we shouldn’t have to wait too long for this new series. According to What’s On Netflix, filming is set to begin in January 2022, making it entirely possible for both of Flanagan’s upcoming shows to debut in the same year. But we’ll have to wait and see.
