Doctor Who is drawing ever closer to the end of Jodie Whittaker’s run as the Doctor and Chris Chibnall’s run as showrunner. With Season 13 behind us, we now have three specials to look forward to, the first being the upcoming New Year’s Day special “Eve of the Daleks.”
While we have no idea who will play the next Doctor, we do know that former showrunner Russell T. Davies is all set to take over for Chibnall. This is quite exciting, because Davies’ original run as showrunner gave us some of the best episodes to date, including “The End of Time.” That was Davies’ final episode as showrunner, and of David Tennant’s run as the Doctor.
So what will Davies have in store for us this time? Steven Moffat, who took over as showrunner after him, shed some light on what might be coming our way during a recent Q&A with the Oxford Union Society.
Steven Moffat talks Russell T Davies’ return to Doctor Who
While Moffat spoke about all kinds of things during the talk (including Sherlock), what you need to pay special attention to is around the 16:55 mark. Apparently, Moffat knows knows a little bit about Davies’ plan after speaking with the man himself.
“Don’t think you know what you’re going to get,” Moffat said. “You don’t. He wouldn’t be doing this unless he could scare the living s*** out of you. It will be good.”
We’ll have to hang tight to see exactly what madness is headed our way. Until then, we have the New Year’s Day Doctor Who special to look forward to; it will involve a freaky time loop, plenty of Daleks (new and improved!), and wild Doctor Who adventures that will make the first day of the year incredibly memorable.
As for the other two specials? No dates have been announced as of yet, but check back here for more updates in the coming days and months!
