Sure, the long-awaited conclusion to the Spider-Man “Home” trilogy, Spider-Man: No Way Home, may have literally just arrived in theaters, but that won’t prevent fans from wondering if current web-slinger Tom Holland will return for additional installments. Recent comments have suggested that he will be swinging back into the movies, but have we been caught up in a web of misinformation and misinterpretation.
By “recent comments,” I’m mostly referring to Pascal Pictures producer Amy Pascal, who a few weeks back surprisingly dropped the news that Holland was on board for another Spider-Man trilogy. “This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel — the last Spider-Man movie,” she said. “We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel, it just isn’t part of… we’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three.”
However, perhaps in excitement over the release of No Way Home, Pascal may have overstated things, at least according to Sony Pictures CEO and Chairman Tom Rothman. “I will confirm that my dear sister-in-arms, Amy, is a very optimistic person. That’s what I will confirm,” he told Variety. “The reality is no, nothing is set; nothing has been determined. But, on the other hand, everything is still possible.”
That’s about as coy an answer as possible. It sounds like they’re trying to get a deal done. I’m sure everyone would be down to see Tom Holland in more movies as Peter Parker.
Amy Pascal is pushing for more of Tom Holland as Spider-Man
Of course, a lot of factors go into making a Spider-Man movie. It doesn’t all come down to one person. That said, Amy Pascal seems to be on a mission to bring Holland back for another trilogy: “If I have my way we will.”
Addressing the rumor she started a few weeks back, Pascal didn’t really clarify anything, but rather put the pressure on Tom Holland to agree to don the iconic suit again. “As long as he wants to keep making Spider-Man movies, we will make Spider-Man movies. I’m a producer and I always think everything’s going to work out.”
Speaking on Tom Holland, he sounds unsure about how much longer he’d like to portray the hero. “Maybe it is time for me to move on,” Holland said recently. “Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well because he is an important part of my life. If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.”
Only time will tell if he returns for more. Let’s not worry about the future for now, and instead enjoy the latest (and maybe the greatest) Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is currently in theaters!
