Tarwin’s Gap

In the show: Thousands of Trollocs led by Fades charge Tarwin’s Gap. Lord Agelmar and his army, understanding they’re unlikely to succeed, defend the outer fortress to buy time for everyone to escape Fal Dara, and for those staying behind to warn the rest of the world of the Dark One’s assault. At the same time, Lady Amalisa gathers all the women channelers remaining in Fal Dara to defend the city should the men fail.

After the wall of Tarwin’s Gap is breached, Nynaeave and Egwene join Lady Amalisa in a last defense. They link their powers with Amalisa, who uses the One Power to wipe out the approaching wave of Trollocs. Filled with the ecstasy of the One Power, Amalisa draws too much and burns herself out, along with Nynaeve and the other two women who join them. Egwene, filled with grief, is able to use the One Power to heal Nynaeve and reverse the damage.

In the books: As the Emond’s Fielders face off with the Forsaken at the Eye of the World, Rand finds himself standing on a cliff above the mountain pass of Tarwin’s Gap. Below he can see the armies of Fal Dara and Shienar battling Shadowspawn. The odds look to be stacked against them.

Rand then appears on the battlefield. Bat-like monsters called Draghkar begin to attack Rand. He channels the male half of the One Power and lightening falls from the sky to destroy the creatures. Screaming in pain and misery, he spawns a devastating wall of flame that turns the Trolloc army to ash. As the forces of the Light prepare for a final charge, Rand disappears.
