Every Harry Potter fan knows exactly what they’re going to do to ring in the new year: watch the 20th-anniversary special, Return to Hogwarts! I am hugely excited to sit down and relive the magic. This franchise holds such a special place in my heart, something I share with millions of people around the world.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts premieres on HBO Max on January 1, 2022. Ahead of the premiere, we’re getting little snippets of the cast reminiscing about their working on the iconic movies. Many of these guys literally grew up on set, and now 20 years later, their lives have dramatically changed.

In the video below, a lot of the cast members talk about their time on set and what’s been happening in the years since. Check it out!

The cast of Harry Potter celebrates 20 years of magic

Emma Watson (Hermione) calls meeting up with her fellow costars “an unexpected joy.” You can see the happiness in her eyes when she gives Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) a huge hug.

Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter himself, talks about growing up on set. “Every part of my life is connected to Potter and to Leavesden. My first kiss is connected to someone here, my first girlfriends were here. It all spirals out from the Potter set somewhere.”

It’s also hilarious hearing Radcliffe talk about how he and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) absolutely hated growing out their hair for the later films. “We’re like, ‘No, no, no, no, no. You’re not leaving us like this? We’re supposed to be becoming teenagers and dating girls in this film! That’s not what it’s going to be, is it?’ So, I think we were pretty devastated as we realized that it was.”

All of these excerpts are just the tip of the Harry Potter iceberg. So if you don’t have plans to go out on New Year’s Day, get all your HP gear (wands, robes, the whole shebang!) and get ready to go back in time and relive the movies that made magic feel real.

I cannot wait!
