House of the Dragon — HBO — 2022
Now we move from the shows we have release windows for and onto those we know are coming in 2022, but we don’t know when. And of course, we’d be remiss to start anywhere but with the big one, the show we’re all waiting for with bated breath: House of the Dragon, HBO’s first Game of Thrones spinoff.
House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the original series, and will tell the tale of a brutal Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of Dragons. Not only will Targaryens and their vassals be fighting each other, but there will be dragons as well. Lots of dragons. The time of the Dance was when House Targaryen was at the peak of its power, and there were more dragons in Westeros than at any point before or since. After the Dance, the Targaryens go on to rule for a couple hundred more years, but their power would be ever in decline.
Like Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon has a large cast. The story, based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, serves up all the twists, turns, betrayals and battles that fans of the original show could ask for. We don’t yet know exactly when House of the Dragon will premiere, but filming was winding down in January. Based on that, we’re expecting it to come along late in 2022, although it’d be great if it hit earlier.
All we know for sure is that this year, we’ll be able to return to Westeros. — Daniel
