Snowpiercer season 3 — TNT — January 24
Based on a 2013 movie of the same name from Parasite director Bong Joon-ho, Snowpiercer is set in a post-apocalyptic future where climate change has plunged the planet into an eternal winter. Remnants of humanity survive aboard a massive train called the Snowpiercer, which is constantly on the move and generates the energy the people on board need to avoid freezing to death.
Over the years, the train has become rigidly divided by class, with the wealthy elites living in style near the front and everyone else — including former detective Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) — in the back. Naturally, Andre and his supporters eventually stage a revolution, but that’s only the beginning of their troubles.
The second season introduced Game of Thrones veteran Sean Bean as Mr. Wilford, the eccentric, super-wealthy inventor of the Snowpiercer. Folks used to seeing Bean play noble-hearted characters will get a kick out of watching him as this snake. And the second season ended with the implication that there’s hope for life on Earth outside of the train, which raises lots of interesting storytelling possibilities.
Snowpiercer also stars Jennifer Connelly as Melanie Cavill, the (former) voice of the train, so there’s some star power to go around on this show. The third season of Snowpiercer may not be the most hotly anticipated TV show of 2022, but the series has gathered a cadre of loyal fans. Season 3 premieres on TNT on January 24. — Dan
