Raised by Wolves season 2 — HBO Max — February 3

Raised by Wolves didn’t get a ton of buzz when it premiered on HBO Max back in 2020, but maybe it should have, because it is…bold. Executive produced by Alien and Blade Runner director Ridley Scott, it’s a heady science fiction story about a pair of androids who raise a group of human children after Earth is destroyed in a violent war.

The show has a lot of prominent religious themes, with the androids’ burgeoning human colony being torn apart by sectarian conflict. Danish actor Amanda Collin gives a uncanny performance as Mother, the lead android, and the biggest star in the cast is Vikings veteran Travis Fimmel as a solider in an atheist army. So this is a big budget idea-driven sci-fi show with mostly unknowns in the lead roles. Like I said, bold.

In the second season, the androids Mother and Father will take their brood of six human children to join a newly formed atheist colony on the exoplanet of Kepler-22b, in the mysterious tropical zone. As we can see in the trailer, Mother in particular is starting to behave more like a human, as all robots in science fiction stories inevitably do.

Maybe this will be the year Raised by Wolves catches on. You can see it when it premieres on HBO Max on February 3. — Dan
