Original Doctor Who producer Phil Collinson to return to series
By Ariba Bhuvad
It looks like Doctor Who is getting the band back together! Rumor has it that producer Phil Collinson is returning to the series alongside former showrunner Russell T Davies. The both of them worked together on the show from 2005 to 2008, during the reigns of Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant as the Ninth and Tenth Doctors.
Now, no official announcement has been made as of yet, but it looks like Collinson has been credited as the producer on the upcoming fourteenth season on an Independent Talent profile. It also helps that both of them recently worked together on It’s A Sin, a Channel 4 original.
For any fellow Whovians out there, knowing that some of the original team is getting back together for a new era of Doctor Who is beyond exciting. Arguably, Davies’ original run as showrunner was the series’ best. Who knows, maybe we’ll see some more reunions. *cough* Tennant *cough*
Doctor Who reunites former creative team
With Davies and Collinson allegedly getting back together, it is going to make for an epic start to a new season. But there is still some time before we get to see what they come up with. The current season of Doctor Who, which marks Jodie Whittaker’s final run as the Doctor, still has two more specials to air. We probably won’t see any Season 14 episodes until 2023, when the series will mark its 60th anniversary. I’m sure Davies has something amazing planned for it.
During the show’s 50th anniversary, Tennant and Matt Smith came together for “The Day of the Doctor,” which was as amazing as any Whovian could have imagined. Hopefully we’ll see something like that for the 60th anniversary! With Davies at the helm, I have no doubt the show will knock our socks off.
