Fans are absolutely loving seeing John Cena return to the character of Peacemaker in his new HBO Max show. It’s posting solid ratings, too. According to Business InsiderPeacemaker is 69.5 times more in demand than the average streaming series right now. And it also has some stellar reviews: The Suicide Squad spinoff currently boasts 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, the best score in the entire DCEU to date.

Per Deadline, following the fifth episode dropping on HBO Max, Gunn hinted that another season is entirely possible, but held back on confirming anything. “There’s a really good chance of that,” he teased. “We’re the biggest show in the world right now.”

So what’s the holdup? Gunn cites none other than himself as one of the biggest hurdles to making another season. Between working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and various other projects, he’s got his fingers in a lot of pies, which means he has a super-hectic schedule.

"The show is doing extraordinarily well, and we’re excited, we all like doing it, we just need to cross some ‘T’s’ and dot some ‘I’s, which is basically me."

All that said, I would be very surprised if Peacemaker didn’t get renewed for another series.

James Gunn wants to make another Suicide Squad spinoff

In The Suicide Squad, James Gunn utilized a ton of lesser-known DC heroes, including Ratcatcher 2, Polka-Dot Man, and Javelin. Of course, Peacemaker got his own spinoff, and now Gunn is eyeing another show based on one of the villains.

“We’re working on something else now, another TV show that’s connected to that universe,” Gunn revealed. “I can’t quite say.”

Obviously, the mystery spinoff project is being kept under lock and key, but that didn’t stop Deadline from trying to dig a little deeper. When asked about whether Peter Capaldi’s character Thinker would be involved, Gunn remained silent. “I can’t say anything,” he said, adding that it may go down a slightly darker route. “It is connected to this universe, and I don’t think it will be the same genre as Peacemaker, it won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker, but it will be in the same universe.”

There’s an array of characters to choose from, even among those Gunn didn’t brutally kill off in The Suicide Squad…unless he plans on making a prequel. In the meantime, Peacemaker is currently streaming on HBO Max.
