Game of Thrones is nearly three years gone, and HBO still hasn’t rolled out successor show House of the Dragon. Can we expect it this upcoming month.

Short answer: no. Last we checked, certain cast members were still filming as late as a few weeks ago, although things are winding down. House of the Dragon is a complicated show that will take a lot of post-production to get right, so there’s zero chance we get it in February 2022.

That said, the good news is that we do know that House of the Dragon is coming out sometime in 2022…we just don’t know exactly when.

When does House of the Dragon start?

House of the Dragon is set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of the Dance of the Dragons, a brutal Targaryen civil war that tore Westeros apart. At this time, there were still lots of dragons in Westeros, and many of them will tear each other apart before the war is over. For that reason alone, the first season of the show will take a while to prepare; dragons are expensive.

Recently there was a rumor that House of the Dragon was coming out on April 3 of this year, which would mean it premiered around the same time as most seasons of Game of Thrones back in the day. But it was false; when HBO announces the premiere date, that’s when we can believe it.

Most likely, House of the Dragon will premiere later in the year. That means it could compete with Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings show, which premieres in September. There should be some fireworks then.
