Zoe Saldana gets in trouble for posting Guardians of the Galaxy 3 video
By Daniel Roman
Marvel is notorious for having a security detail that would put even Stark Industries to shame. Even actors like Emilia Clarke, who was more than a little familiar with NDAs and keeping things quiet from her time on Game of Thrones, have commented about how intense the company is about guarding its secrets. And while other Marvel stars like Tom Holland have spilled the beans before, you can bet they got a stern talking to after.
The latest actor to run afoul of the Marvel police is Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy. After being killed off in Avengers: Infinity War, Gamora was later brought back in Avengers: Endgame through some time travel hijinks. But this is a much earlier and edgier version of the character we know, which means that when the dust settled, she had no real reason to rejoin the Guardians. She set off on her own, and Endgame leaves us with the presumption that the Guardians team led by Chris Pratt will presumably be spending at least part of the third film looking for her.
Marvel security busts Zoe Saldana for Instagram video
All that is to say, there’s a lot of hush hush around Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but we know Saldana is in it and that it’s currently filming. The actor recently posted a seemingly harmless video to her Instagram showing her hanging out in full Gamora make-up, drinking yerba mate and flipping through a binder of production notes.
But of course, we know that anything with even a hint of information is liable to trigger the alarms, and whatever was in that binder, Marvel security didn’t want it on Instagram. They made the actor take down her original video. She later posted an updated version, which you can see above, with the damning binder covered up and a big old arrow pointing to her drink to draw attention away from it. “Had to take this down before because of Marvel Security. Now that I covered what they don’t want you to see, let’s just focus on the Mate!!!!!” she wrote.
Was this a totally justified attempt to hide mega-spoilers by the Marvel police, or an overly extreme reaction? We may never know.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently slated for release on May 23, 2023. Director James Gunn has said that this film will be the end of this team of Guardians, so we’re expecting some big shifts and potential heartache from this one. In the meantime, the animated series I Am Groot and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special are both expected to hit Disney+ later this year.
