See Hugh Jackman as The Immortal from Invincible in stunning image
By Dan Selcke
Amazon has a hit on its hands with Invincible, an animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s superhero comic. It’s about Mark Greyson, a teenager who discovers his dad is the superhero Omni-Man.
Invincible is steeped in superhero lore, and lots of characters reference other icons from the medium, but with a twist. Omni-Man is a take on Superman, for instance. There’s a Wonder Woman-esque character, an Aquaman homage, and so on.
There’s also a character named the Immortal, a Celtic warrior who got superpowers after encountering a strange spiral of energy. He went on to help King Arthur (or maybe he was King Arthur), get elected president of the United States under the name Abraham Lincoln, and finally live the modern superhero life.
Hugh Jackman would make a good Immortal in an Invincible movie
On the Amazon show, the Immortal is voiced by Ross Marquand. But it might interest you to know that according to Kirkman, there is also a live-action movie version of Invincible in the works, although he’s not giving away many details just yet. “This is another one of those things that’s a little early going but I will say that there are massive efforts going in to make sure that the film experience is unique [and separate from the animated series]…while also being true to Invincible,” he said during last year’s Comic-Con@Home. “I couldn’t be more excited about the stuff that we’re doing but I can’t tell you yet.”
That said, fans are way ahead of him. They’ve already mocked up what it might look like if Henry Cavill played Omni-Man, and artist skull101ify has given us an image of what Hugh Jackman might look like if he played The Immortal. Check that out here.
Both The Immortal and Wolverine have prominent sideburns. I think that’s the big connection.
