The Witcher season 3 adds first new cast member
By Daniel Roman
The Witcher is Netflix’s biggest fantasy hit. Season 2 of the series set records for the platform and became one of the most successful seasons of any show in Netflix’s history. But as eager as fans might be to return to the Continent and see what’s next for Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer, and Ciri, The Witcher is a special effects-heavy show that takes quite a bit of time to put together. Right now, season 3 remains in pre-production, getting all its ducks in a row before any actual filming starts.
A while back, we reported that The Withcer was searching for an actor to play an assassin called The Professor. And now, Redanian Intelligence reports that Safiyya Ingar has joined the cast of The Witcher season 3. This is not an official announcement, but Redanian Intelligence is a pretty reliable source for Witcher news.
Ingar has appeared in stuff like Summer of Rockets, Doctors and Faith, as well as doing voice work in the video game Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Space and Time.
Who will Safiyya Ingar play in The Witcher?
Ingar’s role in the show is not known yet, but Redanian Intelligence has a theory that she may play Milva, an archer who features pretty prominently throughout the back half of The Witcher book series. Milva is an ally of Geralt’s who first appears at the beginning of the third novel, Baptism of Fire, in a series of scenes that follows directly after the climactic events of The Time of Contempt, the book which season 3 is primarily based on. It’s entirely possible that Milva could make an appearance this season to set up her eventual meeting with Geralt, and Ingar does seem like she could pull off the role of the no-nonsense archer.
We might also see Ingar appear with the Rats, a group of young bandits who have a Robin Hood-esque reputation for stealing from the rich and sharing their spoils with the poor. The Rats come into play at the end of The Time of Contempt and feature throughout the following book. Ingar could play Mistle, an important member of the band with some connections to Ciri.
Of course, this is all speculation; Ingar could also play a character that is totally made up for the show. We won’t know until we know.
The Witcher seasons 1 and 2 are currently available to stream on Netflix. The prequel limited series Blood Origin, which stars Michelle Yeoh, is due out sometime this year.
