See the Green Lantern cameo cut from Zack Snyder’s Justice League
By Cody Schultz
With the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max in 2021, fans finally had the chance to experience the director’s fully realized vision for the film. The extended cut allowed Synder to finally bring fans the movie he had hoped to deliver before he was forced to step away from the project mid-production, which led to extensive reshoots and alterations.
The extended version had expanded storylines and allowed previously cut characters to return. But there were still things left on the cutting room floor. While Jared Leto’s Joker and Kiersey Clemons’s Iris West got to appear in the movie, Wayne T. Carr’s Green Lantern wasn’t so lucky.
But now, Carr has given fans what they’ve long craved by releasing our first official look at Green Lantern’s cut appearance. In the stunning new image released by Carr on social media, fans witness Green Lantern in all of his glory in a previously unreleased still of the character:
Was Green Lantern supposed to be in Zack Snyder’s Justice League?
While Green Lantern (the John Stewart version, in this case) did not appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the character was intended to be introduced as part of an Easter egg in the closing moments of the movie. But the character was cut from the original rendition of the film and Synder was unable to revisit the character in the Zack Snyder Justice League cut due to a direct order from Warner Bros. According to Screen Rant, Warner Bros. requested the character be removed from the movie due to their plans to launch a Green Lantern franchise. The character of Martian Manhunter was brought in to take Green Lantern’s place.
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely we’ll get to see Wayne T. Carr suit up as Green Lantern in any upcoming DC movie or show, which is a real shame. The good news is a Green Lantern series is still in development and should be coming soon to HBO Max.
