Jason Isaacs is perhaps best known as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, but to Star Wars Rebels fans, he’ll always be the Grand Inquisitor. Isaacs’ voice talents brought a dignified yet terrifying aspect to one of the animated series’ most memorable villains. The Grand Inquisitor was charged with hunting down Jedi by Darth Vader, and Isaacs portrayed the smug joy that the villain took in his task so well.

The list of new Star Wars television series on Disney+ is ever growing, and many of the animated characters have started crossing over into live action. Some of those characters are even being portrayed by the same actors who voiced them in the Rebels and Clone Wars animated series, like Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze and Corey Burton as Cad Bane.

Now that we know the Grand Inquisitor is featuring in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, many fans have lamented that Isaacs will not be reprising the role. In the live action series, the part will be played by Homeland star Rupert Friend. While Friend will surely be good in the part, some fans still wonder what it might have looked like if Isaacs himself had returned as the Grand Inquisitor.

There’s only one solution: fan art. Artist Marietta Ivanova produced her own take on what Jason Isaacs might have looked like as the Grand Inquisitor in live-action, and it’s pretty stunning. Check it out here.

What is the Grand Inquisitor up to in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi?

While we won’t get to see Jason Isaacs back in the role of the Grand Inquisitor, it’s still pretty cool that the character is making the leap to live-action. Obi-Wan Kenobi is set around five years before the beginning of Star Wars Rebels. This means we’re likely to see the Grand Inquisitor early in his career as a Jedi hunter. The Inquisitors are an elite force of Jedi killers trained by Darth Vader to pursue any of the force users that escaped Order 66. It seems certain that we’ll see a lot of the Inquisitors in the new limited series.

It’s even possible that we’ll get to see the genesis of the Inquisitors. Since the show is set before Rebels, it would make sense if we saw Obi-Wan learn that his former padawan is now training new Sith warriors to hunt down Jedi refugees.

Regardless of the Grand Inquisitor’s specific mission in Obi-Wan Kenobi, it looks like his trademark revolving lightsaber will be making an appearance. And whether he crosses paths with Obi-Wan or not,  he’ll survive through the end of the series so that he can go on to be in Rebels.

What do you think? Do you wish Jason Isaacs had been brought back to play the Grand Inquisitor in Obi-Wan Kenobi, or are you excited to see what Rupert Friend brings to the role?
