The Walking Dead: Ross Marquand on working with another Terminator vet
By Ashley Hurst
In the latest episode of The Walking Dead, we were introduced to unhinged warlord Ian, played by none other than Terminator star Michael Biehn (Kyle Reese). However, he isn’t the only face from the Terminator franchise to appear as a big bad in the zombie apocalypse; Robert Patrick (T-1000) appeared in season 10 episode “One More.” Funnily enough, in both instances, the villains have crossed paths with Aaron (Ross Marquand) and Gabriel (Seth Gilliam). While they might be giving our survivors a hard time, Marquand is enjoying working with his heroes.
Robert Patrick’s stint as Mays only lasted for one episode. He was ultimately killed by Gabriel following his sadistic game of Russian roulette. Similarly, Biehn’s Ian only survived one episode, season 11’s “Warlords.” The Terminator stars are terminated. “They were both just the most lovely, affable, fun-to-talk-to guys,” Marquand told ComicBook.com. “I mean, we’re so lucky to have such incredible veteran actors like them to play on our show, even if it was just for an episode. I mean, we really lucked out getting both of them to play in our universe. They were both so much fun to work with and I’m just really pleased that they got to play in our world.”
At this rate, will we get an Arnold Schwarzenegger cameo in the final season? Probably not.
Michael Biehn said “yes right away” to join The Walking Dead
During his appearance on the after-show Talking Dead, Biehn discussed what made him want in on the beloved series. It turns out he’s been a fan since it premiered well over a decade ago. “I have been watching The Walking Dead since it premiered. I remember the first year of The Walking Dead, I watched it, and I said to myself, ‘I want to be on that show.'”
"I just thought it was a really, really quality show, and I’ve always wanted to be a part of it. For whatever reason — whether it was my schedule or interest, or non-interest [from TWD] — I was never offered a role until this past season, nor did I ever audition for a role. But it’s a show that I’ve always thought was quality…I got a call from my agent, they had offered me a role, I read it, I thought it was a really fun character, so I said yes right away."
And who knows, with spinoff Tales of The Walking Dead on the way, there’s always a chance we could see more of Ian. Given that Biehn is passionate about the show, I’m sure he would be down!
The Walking Dead season 11 continues Sundays on AMC. Aaron is right in the thick of it after pretty much taking over Rick Grimes’ arc from the comic book. More on that here:
