Attack on Titan just announced its final batch of episodes for 2023, and the anime promises an epic conclusion to Eren Yeager’s story. The fourth and final season already kicked off with two parts that turned the tables on viewers and created a narrative where the show’s heroes may not actually be the “good guys.”
The final stretch of the anime will reveal whether or not Eren goes through with the Rumbling. After everything we’ve seen so far, it seems like a long shot to hold out for a happy ending.
Of course, with Attack on Titan coming to a close, fans of the series may find themselves looking for a new anime to pick up. Fortunately, there are quite a few that share common themes with the popular shonen show. From newcomers like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen to classics like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Code Geass, there’s no shortage of content to dive into.
1. Demon Slayer
Demon Slayer is quickly becoming one of the next big shonen anime, with its Demon Slayer: Mugen Train movie bringing in more than $450 million at the box office and surpassing Spirited Away as the top-grossing movie in Japan.
An anime about a boy who joins the Demon Slayer Corps after his family is slaughtered by one of the creatures, Demon Slayer has quite a bit in common with Attack on Titan. Apart from the fact that the enemies in both shows eat human beings, Demon Slayer is just as ruthless in its storytelling. If you’re a fan of anime that veers toward tragedy, it might be worth checking out.
Eren and Tanjiro’s stories also have jarringly similar beginnings. Although the characters have vastly different personalities — and reactions to their traumatic losses — the premieres of both anime are likely to hook similar audiences.
Of course, Demon Slayer also boasts a bit more humor than Attack on Titan. In today’s landscape, that’s hardly something we can complain about.
