2. Jujutsu Kaisen

Another shonen anime sure to become a hit with more seasons, Jujutsu Kaisen premiered in 2020 and boasts the same high stakes and action as shows like Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan. The series is also brought to life by Studio MAPPA, which is animating Attack on Titan The Final Season, so its art style is similar.

Jujutsu Kaisen kicks off with a boy named Yuji Itadori getting pulled into the world of sorcerers operating at Jujutsu High. After Itadori swallows the cursed finger of the demon Sukuna and somehow retains control of his body, he’s tasked with rounding up all the fingers of the demon so can consume them and rid the world of this evil. It will take a lot of training.

Everything from Jujutsu Kaisen’s dark and disturbing enemies to its ruthless gang of heroes is likely to resonate with fans of Attack on Titan. That’s not to mention that both anime feature some seriously badass female characters, something that’s sadly somewhat rare within the shonen genre.

3. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Attack on Titan don’t have a ton in common when it comes to premise or themes, but both are considered some of the best genre anime of the 21st century. And if you’re a fan of Attack on Titan‘s character-driven storytelling, there’s a good chance you’ll take to Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

The story opens in a similar fashion to Attack on Titan: with the two main characters, Edward and Alfred Elric, losing their mother. Of course, their mom dies of natural causes rather than getting eaten by a Titan. It’s their botched attempt at using alchemy to bring her back to life that truly kicks off their journey.

Human transmutation is one of the biggest taboos in the Fullmetal Alchemist world, and their actions come with a high price tag. Not only do they fail to bring their mother back, but the duo loses Al’s entire body and Edward’s right arm and left leg. The anime sees them searching for a way to recover what they’ve lost, preferably by finding the Philosopher’s Stone.

That mission throws them into a much greater conspiracy, one that involves government and military corruption and powerful creatures called Homunculi. The twists and turns, especially where powerful organizations are concerned, will no doubt remind viewers of Attack on Titan.
