12. Castlevania

Netflix’s Castlevania came to an end with its fourth season, but the anime stirred up plenty of excitement before taking its final bow. Attack on Titan fans who haven’t had a chance to check it out should definitely consider doing so. Although the video game adaptation doesn’t have a ton in common with Attack on Titan in terms of story, it offers a dark and thrilling tale with impressive action and great character moments.

Castlevania follows vampire hunter Trevor Belmont as he attempts to stop Dracula from eradicating humanity. Broken down to bullet point form, the story has similar stakes to Eren Yeager’s, although the characters and lore are very different.

Still, those looking for a brutal fantasy world will find it in Castlevania. The Netflix series remains strong from start to finish, boasting bloody fights, lovable characters, and plenty of unexpected twists. Plus, the series is complete and streaming on Netflix, meaning it makes for a solid binge-watch once you’ve caught up with Attack on Titan.

13. Parasyte: The Maxim

Similar to several other anime on this list, Parasyte: The Maxim follows a main character who must balance two parts of himself: the human being and the part infected by a parasite.

In Shinichi Izumi’s world, those infected by alien parasites typically lose their minds to them. And eventually, their bodies also come under alien control. However, when Shinichi becomes afflicted by one of these creatures, it takes refuge in his hand instead of his brain. That comes with its own complications, including both parties being stuck with one another.

And just like in Attack on Titan and Tokyo Ghoul, Shinichi’s circumstances are perceived as a threat by those around him. In particular, the other parasites believe this sort of evolution will negatively impact them in the future. That’s why they come after Shinichi and his own parasite, Migi.

The relationship between Shinichi and Migi takes Parasyte: The Maxim  into more interesting territory. With twists aplenty, fans of genre anime will no doubt find plenty of reasons to love this one. Plus, Parasyte: The Maxim is only 24 episodes, so it’s fairly easy to get through.
