Hawkeye might have been a hit among fans and critics, but the odds of Hawkeye season 2 happening aren’t looking good.

The 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards aren’t until September, but studios are already beginning their campaigns for this season’s biggest hits in hopes of helping to secure them a place on the Emmy voting ballots. Following its successful Emmy campaign for WandaVision, which led the Emmy nomination field in 2021 with 23 nominations, Marvel is once again looking to make waves at the Emmys by submitting its latest hits for consideration. Among the series the studio will be submitting for Emmy consideration are Loki and Hawkeye — two hits that have a strong chance of securing some nominations following their acclaimed runs.

According to a new report from VarietyMarvel will be submitting Loki in the Drama category but has made the choice to submit Hawkeye in the Limited Series category.

While this might seem like nothing more than an effort on Marvel’s end to double its odds by not having the two shows compete against one another for voters’ affections, the move seems to suggest Marvel will not be proceeding with a second season of the series.

Is Hawkeye season 2 happening?

Unfortunately, it’s looking highly unlikely a second season of Hawkeye will be ordered by Disney Plus. Disney has not announced any plans for a second season and its decision to submit the series as a Limited Series for Emmy consideration seems to suggest Hawkeye will be a one-season series.

As fans will recall, Disney confirmed the second season order for Loki as a post-credits tease in the season finale while What If…? was picked up for two seasons upfront. Given that only one season of Hawkeye was announced and there was no tease for a second season in the post-credits of the show’s finale, it doesn’t appear Disney is interested in another season of the show.

WandaVision also competed in the Limited Series race and the studio has been adamant that the show was intended to only run for one season. As such, it seems by submitting Hawkeye in the same category, Disney and Marvel have quietly confirmed that Hawkeye was also only intended to run for one season.

While Hawkeye season 2 isn’t likely to happen, there is some good news for fans of the series. Although we’re not expecting a second season of Hawkeye, the door has been left open for the show’s characters to return in future MCU projects including Echo — a spinoff led by Hawkeye‘s Alaqua Cox.
