Outlander casts Charles Vandervaart as Jamie Fraser’s adult son William

Outlander fans, stay calm and carry on: per Deadline, Lost in Space star Charles Vandervaart is officially making his debut in the time-traveling romance as Jamie Fraser’s adult son William, and we can’t wait! This is very exciting news because it means big things are coming in Season 7.

William made his debut back in season 3, when he was just a wide-eyed young kid completely unaware that Jamie was his real father. To refresh your memory, William is the son of Jamie and Geneva Dunsany, who wanted her virginity taken before she was married off to the elderly Earl of Ellesmere. She blackmailed Jamie into helping her, got pregnant, and was ultimately called out by the Earl for her infidelity.

Sadly, Geneva passed away during childbirth, and soon after the Earl died as well. Jamie watched his son grow up from a distance but never revealed that he was his real father, in fact, as far as William knows, Lord John Grey is his father. Fast forward to season 7 and things are about to get interesting as the adult William makes his way to the American Colonies.

The American Revolutionary War has almost arrived on Outlander. William Ransom will show up to fight it with “patriotic zeal and enthusiasm to join the British Army and help put an end to the escalating tensions in the American Colonies.” This is going to complicate things given that Jamie is essentially on the other side, and Lord John Grey knows all about it.

How will William react to learning that not only has Lord John Grey lied to him, but his birth father is actually working with the rebels? I have no idea, but I cannot wait for it!

Executive producer Matthew B. Roberts shared the news in a statement, and the Outlander cast and crew couldn’t be more excited.

“We are happy to welcome Charles to the Fraser family for season seven of Outlander, joining the cast with the other talented actors that bring our stories to life,” Roberts said. “Scotland will again be our production home as the Frasers and MacKenzies try to make a home against the backdrop of the Revolutionary War. This season promises more adventure, time travel, and emotional peril than any season before”
