House of the Dragon isn’t coming out in May 2022
By WiC Staff
HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel show is coming…but not this month. Still, we don’t’ have much longer to wait until House of the Dragon premieres.
That said, it won’t be out this month. We’ll be able to watch the Targaryens going at each other’s throats starting August 21 on HBO and HBO Max.
Until that day arrives, the new trailer is pretty nifty:
House of the Dragon release date
House of the Dragon is set some 200 years before the start of Game of Thrones, so don’t expect Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen or anyone to show up.
That said, their ancestors are here in abundance. The story revolves around a civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, when rival factions of the Targaryen dynasty –then at the height of its power — battle over the Iron Throne following the death of King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine).
Fans will recognize a lot of themes carrying over from Game of Thrones; power, politics, human folly, etc. The biggest difference is probably the absence of White Walkers or any similarly existential threat. To make up for it, House of the Dragon will have waaaaaay more dragons. Game of Thrones had three, and they spent most of the series unable to do much real damage. This new show has dozens, and they’re giant-sized right out of the gate.
Again, we’ll get the details on August 21. Here we go, everybody.
