Rumors about Morbius 2 are totally false (but funny)
By Daniel Roman
Rumors have been swirling on the internet that a sequel to Sony’s Spider-Man villain film Morbius, which starred Jared Leto as the titular Living Vampire, has been greenlit. Despite being a commercial and critical failure, “fans” (most of whom have not seen the movie) are clamoring for Morbius 2 , where Michael Morbius can finally proclaim his famous line, “It’s Morbin’ time” (which is not a real catchphrase). Some people just want to watch the world burn, and at this current moment in time, you can easily recognize those people by their enthusiasm for a Morbius sequel.
After a fake CNN image started circulating on the internet, which proclaimed “Sony greenlights Morbius sequel for Paramount+ and Disney+ streaming services, release date early 2024,” the rumor mill kicked into high gear. We’re just here to let you know: those rumors are totally, 100% false.
I’m not saying there’s not some Sony executive out there mulling over whether a sequel would be worth it, especially considering how many tweets there are about Leto’s vampire on the daily. It’s entirely possible there will one day be a Morbius 2. But it is not this day.
Not only is the rumored CNN image fake, it doesn’t even make sense; Paramount+ and Disney+ are rivals, and Sony actually has an exclusive streaming deal with Netflix that kicked off this year. So no, the studio will not be bringing MIchael Morbius’ next adventure to either of those platforms. Or anywhere, hopefully.
Largest group of “vampires” set Guinness World Record on Dracula anniversary
In other vampire news, a Guinness World Record was set last week for the “Largest Gathering Of People Dressed As Vampires,” per BBC. The gathering, which consisted of 1,369 people in their best vampire get-ups, was conceived as a way to mark the 125th anniversary of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Stoker’s 1897 novel was inspired in part by a trip to the ruins of Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire, England, which is the reason it was chosen as the site for the creatures of the night to gather…in broad daylight.
In order to qualify for the record, every vampire cosplayer present had to mull about in one large group for five minutes. They also had to adhere to a strict vampire dress code, which included “black shoes, black trousers or dress, waistcoat, shirt, black cape or collared overcoat, and fangs on the top set of teeth.” So in case you are wondering what the actual qualifications for vampirism are in the eyes of Guinness, now you know.
The record was previously held by 1,039 “vampires” who gathered in Doswell, Virginia back in 2011.
The gathering in Whitby was not the first attempt by a rival band of bloodsuckers to claim the title for largest coven. In 2013 another group attempted to break the record in West Sussex, England, but failed primarily due to too many vampires wearing the wrong type of shoes. Guinness World Records does not play when it comes to vampire footwear.
All I know is that Michael Morbius never wore that type of vampire attire, which by the Guinness World Records standards means he is not in fact a vampire. I don’t make the rules.
