Sam Heughan: Outlander season 7 will “start off with a bang”
By Ariba Bhuvad
Outlander season 6 ended on an intense cliffhanger as Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Ian (John Bell) rode off into the sunset in the hopes of rescuing Claire (Caitriona Balfe). She’s been convicted of murdering Malva (Jessica Reynolds), and basically everyone’s world has been turned upside down. Oh, and there’s another time traveler about, but absolutely no one has any idea he exists.
There are so many burning questions fans have in regards to where Outlander is headed next, and series star Sam Heughan is on giving out the barest of details. He spoke with US Weekly recently about the upcoming seventh season. “We pick up shortly after with the end of last season, which is a great cliffhanger…America really is in sort of turmoil. There’s revolution, and Jamie and Claire are separated. There’s also the prophecy of Jamie and Claire’s death, you know, that they’re supposed to die in a fire. There’s just so much going on.”
"This really is super-sized season. We really start off with a bang. The first couple episodes are really strong, and that’s as far as we’ve got shooting-wise. But I know there’s so much that we are still about to get to. Not only that you’ve got a lot of new characters coming in or characters that I think are anticipated by fans — including, of course, Jamie Fraser’s son — but a bunch of new characters as well."
Just in time, Outlander has released a sneak peak at the upcoming seventh season. Watch below!
Outlander season 7 is huge
Luckily, we’re getting way more episodes this time around, 16 as a matter of fact, much longer than the shortened sixth season we just finished watching. Due to COVID-19 protocols and Balfe’s maternity leave, things had to wrap up quickly, but it’s all good because the super-sized seventh season is going to be bigger and better than anything we’ve seen.
And there’s a lot it needs to get to. It’s wild to think that the series hasn’t even touched on Claire and Jamie’s imminent death, which is the reason Brianna (Sophie Skelton) traveled back in time in the first place. She wanted to save her parents from the fire that apparently took their lives, but we haven’t had any indication of when and where that might happen.
Personally, I cannot wait to see Charles Vandervaart play the role of William Ransom, Jamie’s son. It’s really going to spice things up, especially since Jamie is with the rebellion now. This might be the Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker moment we’ve been waiting for!
As of now, there is no premiere date for Outlander season 7, but rest assured we will let you know as soon as there are any updates!
