It’s Geeked Week over at Netflix, which means we’re getting tons of news and updates about a vast range of the streamer’s upcoming shows, from the highly anticipated adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman  to the upcoming live-action treatment of One Piece and more. Netflix has pulled out all the stops to get us excited for everything they’ve got in the pipeline.

One of those upcoming shows is Shadow and Bone. The fantasy series based on the Grishaverse novels by Leigh Bardugo was a solid hit for Netflix when its first season premiered in 2021, so the cast and crew have been hard at work on the follow-up. We didn’t see any new footage during Geeked Week, but we did get a pretty exciting announcement: season 2 of the show has officially wrapped filming.

Old and new cast members alike took part in a video to tease the upcoming season, as well as what type of state we’ll find their characters in during this next adventure in Ravka and the surrounding lands. The first season of Shadow and Bone covered the events of Bardugo’s novel of the same name, and set up the criminal team known as the Crows, who we’ll hopefully be seeing a lot more of next season since it will likely include events from the novel Six of Crows. In addition to Six of Crows, season 2 will also depict the events of Siege and Storm, the epic middle volume of Bardugo’s original Grishaverse trilogy. We won’t get into spoilers, but suffice it to say there will be battles, magical creatures, and seafaring aplenty.

No release date has yet been announced for Shadow and Bone season 2, but now that the show has wrapped filming there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic that we’ll get to see it before too long.

Classic game franchise monsters appear in new trailer for Resident Evil

A show that we got to see quite a bit more of at Geeked Week is Resident Evil, which is set to drop on Netflix next month. Based on the best-selling video game series from Capcom, Resident Evil will show the events of a zombie apocalypse in 2036 as well as the events from 2022 that caused it to happen.

This franchise has received plenty of screen treatments in the past, most notably the run of movies starring Milla Jovovich that ended with 2017’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. The show will be a bit different. Rather than depict events from the games or try to reinvent the mythos, Netflix is making a sequel of sorts. Everything that happened in the games is canon to the show, including the fiery demise of Albert Wesker in Resident Evil 5. Since he’s back and being played by actor Lance Reddik in this new series, clearly he’s gone thought some stuff.

Aside from showcasing how the pharmaceutical Umbrella Company is turning over a new leaf to the public while still dealing in the same old monster-making research behind closed doors, this trailer also gave us a much clearer look at a few prominent creatures. There’s a licker, the wall-crawling creatures with razor-sharp tongues who first appeared in Resident Evil 2. And in the final scene we see what appears to be a Tyrant banging against the glass of its containment tank.

If Resident Evil manages to pay as much homage to the games and their campiness as this trailer hints at, it might actually end up being pretty good. Best not to hold our breaths until we see it though. We’ve been hurt by Resident Evil adaptations before.

Resident Evil hits Netflix on July 14. Shadow and Bone season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2023.
