Superman & Lois continues to focus on Ally Allston (Rya Kihlstedt) and the inverse world. I’m not sure how much I’m digging this storyline, but it has led to some great character development. That’s mostly what’s keeping me engaged.

In this week’s episode, the Kent family deals with how to handle the Lucy’s (Jenna Dewan) unrelenting devotion to Ally. Meanwhile, Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui) deals with the reveal that her childhood best friend is actually Superman.

While I didn’t love the way the episode ended, I am enjoying the ebb and flow of the stories. The only major complaint is that the series has taken so many breaks, and we’re about to enter another hiatus which will last two weeks. I don’t know about anyone else, but it disrupts the momentum, doesn’t it?

Now, let’s get into the major events of this week’s episode of Superman & Lois, “All Is Lost”.

SPOILERS ahead!

Superman & Lois deal with the Merge

The pendant that Ally needed to kickstart the Merge was destroyed. However, that doesn’t mean she can’t merge the two Earths together: all she needs is a major power source…like Superman.

Ally’s return to Earth-Prime sets Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) on a path to disaster. He is lured to Ally under the pretense of saving Lois (Bitsie Tulloch), Lucy, and Sam (Dylan Walsh). Instead, Ally drains him of his powers and nearly kills him and Sam in the process.

While I’m not sold on the Ally storyline, her ability to brainwash and manipulate people is frightening. Before Ally almost killed Sam and Superman, Lucy couldn’t see a reason to push Ally away; that’s how down the rabbit hole she is.

When Lucy sees her father come back from the brink of death and finds that Superman is barely hanging on, Lucy is jolted back to reality. It’s an extremely jarring awakening but it needed to happen.

Nat suits up

John (Wolé Parks) isn’t happy to find that Nat (Tayler Buck) has been working on her own suit. As a father, he’s worried for her safety given everything they’ve endured. However, he realizes that in the face of all they are facing at the moment, they need all the help they can get. As expected, he comes around, especially when Superman’s powers are drained by Ally.

I didn’t like Nat at first, but her arc has been absolutely wonderful to watch. She’s really grown in the face of all this adversity and is rising to the challenge. She was not happy in the slightest bit to move in with the Kent family and was barely handling the fact that the Lois of this world is not her mother.

My favorite part of the episode came when Nat suited up alongside her father in the absence of Superman. It was so epic, and even though the scenario wasn’t ideal, I loved seeing the father/daughter duo in action.

Superman & Lois deals with family drama

Lana continues to deal with the fact that Clark is Superman. She’s taken a break from the Kent family while she tries to figure out how to keep it a secret from her family. My heart broke a little when Jordan (Alex Garfin) showed up at Lana’s office begging her to let him see Sarah (Inde Navarrette). I thought the scene was going to be a bit cheesy, but it was filled with so much heart and angst.

As much as I want Lana to tell everyone else in her family about Clark, I absolutely understand why she is so hesitant to let Jordan see Sarah. It’s not easy being a parent and she has to protect her own. Whatever speed bumps the show hits, the family dynamic always brings me in.

However, I am crossing my fingers that soon enough the Lang family members will all come to learn of the big Kent family secret, and then everyone can just be one big happy family. Here’s hoping.

Superman & Lois is heading into another hiatus, so we can marinate on the events that took place in this episode for the next two weeks. As of now, Superman is still unconscious but will get better…hopefully. The reveal at the end of the episode spells some trouble for the Man in Steel, whose cells appear “normal.” Now, normally that’s fine, but if you’re Superman, it’s a lot harder to help people if you’re “normal.”

Could Superman be losing his powers? Will he ever be the same? We don’t have answers to these questions, but based on the promo for the next episode, things aren’t looking great. Luckily, there’s an entourage of superheroes that are going to step up in his absence!
