Every upcoming Star Wars movie and show, ranked by hype
1. Obi-Wan Kenobi
The most anticipated upcoming Star Wars series is definitely Obi-Wan Kenobi, which features Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the titular Jedi and Hayden Christensen returning to play Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. It’s running this moment on Disney+
Obi-Wan Kenobi is set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, the film where Anakin fall hard for the dark side, where Padme gave birth to twins Luke and Leia, where the Republic fell, and where most of the Jedi died, with Emperor Palpatine stepping into the power vacuum. There are nearly two decades between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, so there are plenty of stories yet to be told in live-action.
Other returning characters include Bonnie Piesse as Aunt Beru and Joel Edgerton as Uncle Owen. New cast members include Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang and Simone Kessell. The series is directed by Deborah Chow, who helmed a couple of episodes of The Mandalorian.
Because of its place on the timeline, it’s unlikely Obi-Wan Kenobi will crossover with any of the other Star Wars spinoff series, most of which occur after the original trilogy. But fans are most hyped for a rematch between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. In a preview for the series on Disney+, McGregor said the characters will “have another swing at each other…it might be quite satisfying for everybody.”
