7. Skeleton Crew
Here’s an odd one: Disney is making a Star Wars show called Skeleton Crew about a group of 10-year-olds from a small planet who somehow become lost in the distant reaches of the galaxy and then have to find their way home. It’s described as a “galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s,” which basically means it’s Stranger Things with Star Wars branding.
Another unexpected touch: the series also stars Jude Law, although we don’t know in what capacity. Obviously he’s important because he’s the only face featured in the little announcement image above. Does he accompany the kids of their journey? Is he an antagonist, perhaps a galactic truant officer? Is he actually playing the kids? Anything is possible.
Skeleton Crew is set during the same period as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, which is to say it takes place some time after the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi. Get ready for crossovers.
And the whole thing is being put together by Jon Watts, who directed all three Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. He was taken off the Fantastic Four film for this gig, so whatever Skeleton Crew is, it sounds like Disney has high hopes for it.
There’s no release date for Skeleton Crew set as of yet. – Dan
