I Am Groot: August 10 (Disney+)

On the lighter side of things, Disney is releasing a series of animated shorts about Groot, the adorable plant-based lifeform from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. You can watch him fart leaves, wear scarves, and dress in foliage drag when the show drops on Disney+.

We don’t expect this to factor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in any major way…but with Disney you never know. At least the show will go down easy, given its length. It’ll be nice to have a break during this very busy month of television.

Tales of the Walking Dead: August 14 (AMC)

The Walking Dead will be ending later this year with a final suite of eight episodes. The show has been on for over a decade now, so it’s surreal to think that it’ll soon be over.

That said, AMC has no intention of letting the franchise fade from memory. On the contrary, it’s readying a slew of new Walking Dead shows, including a spinoff about Rick and Michonne, a show following Daryl Dixon through Europe, and Tales of the Walking Dead.

Tales is an anthology series where every episode will tell a discrete story set in this zombie-infested world. Some will revisit places and characters from the show’s past — for instance, one installment will show us what Alpha’s (Samantha Morton) life was like before the apocalypse — and some will be completely new.

Tales of the Walking Dead will star Terry Crews, Parker Posey, Olivia Munn and more. It premieres on AMC and AMC+ on August 14. For reference, the final episodes of the original Walking Dead show will start airing on October 2.
