Andor: August 31 (Disney+)

As with its Marvel shows, Disney isn’t interested in giving us much of a breather between new Star Wars series. The next one is Andor. The show centers around Cassian Andor, the character played by Diego Luna in Star Wars: Rogue One.

Andor will be a prequel to Rogue One that shows how the title character got involved in the Resistance against the Empire. It has more episodes than any Disney+ Star Wars show so far and is already renewed for a second season, so Disney has confidence in this one. It also eschews the recent trend of Disney using the Volume technology to simulate alien environments with a huge rooms lined with LED screens; Andor will use traditional sets.

Honestly, a show about Cassian Andor seems like an odd choice to me — I never got the idea he was a particularly popular character — but who knows? Maybe it’ll be the best Star Wars series yet.

Stargirl season 3: August 31 (The CW)

Finally, The CW will round out the month with the third season of Stargirl, one of the few DC superhero shows that has managed to hang on even as the network has gone on a cancellation spree, pitching series like Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. The third season will see Courtney Whitmore, aka Stargirl (Brec Bassinger), continue to inspire a new generation of superheroes inspired by the Justice Society of America. Meanwhile, a new Injustice Society of America coalesces in response.

Joel McHale will join Stargirl as a lead cast member this season. Given how The CW has been behaving lately, it’s hard to say if Stargirl will survive beyond this next season, but we can at least enjoy it while it lasts.

And that’s it. That’s itTHAT’S IT. Enjoy, y’all. Then we can get ready for September:
