4. The Walking Dead Comedy Spinoff
Though the world of The Walking Dead is a pretty dark place, after 10 years and hundreds of episodes between all three current series, we’ve gotten some moments of levity, too. So why not spin those into their own series?
TWD chief content officer Scott M. Gimple announced plans for a comedy set in The Walking Dead Universe during a 2020 holiday special. And it sounds like he’s dead serious: “We are working on a straight Walking Dead comedy right now. We’re not making fun of our world, but it’s just more of a comedic take on the world.”
How in the world would a comedy set in the apocalypse work?
If you’re going to have a comedy set in the TWD Universe, that means that the characters must be in some semblance of a safe place, because there’s nothing funny about having to fight to survive. If it’s set in the early days of the apocalypse, then it could feature people seeing crazy things happening around them. That could be funny. Or weird. Or both.
Or it could revolve around characters like Tara (Alanna Masterson), who always looked at life through rose colored glasses and had a pun or a joke lined up when there was too much tension in the room.
A Walking Dead comedy, if done properly, could be really incredible. But it has to be done right, or else it will be awkward and won’t fit in the TWD Universe at all.
