Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon II Targaryen
Aegon II Targaryen is the eldest son of King Viserys I Targaryen and his second wife Alicent Hightower, and one of two main claimants to the Iron Throne after King Viserys dies and leaves the seat vacant, the other being Aegon’s older half-sister Rhaenyra Targaryen.
That said, Aegon doesn’t have quite the willpower that Rhaenrya has. He tends to be sullen and pouty, at least in his early life. He also has a reputation for chasing women and is known to have fathered several bastards. For the early part of his reign, at least, there are a lot of people pulling Aegon’s strings, including his mother Alicent and younger brother Aemond. But he does make some wily moves of his own, and is very important to the story overall.
In fact, he’s so important that it’s a little odd that HBO hasn’t highlighted his character more, but perhaps that’s because the first season of House of the Dragon won’t reach the parts of the story where he’s a bigger player.
This could be a huge role for Tom Glynn-Carney, who before this has had parts in movies like Dunkirk and Tolkien. We know he’ll kill it.
