Where is House Stark during House of the Dragon?

The majority of Princess Rhaenyra’s Westerosi allies come from the Vale, the North and the Riverlands, and that includes House Stark. Having surrendered to Aegon during the Conquest, the Starks tended to isolate themselves and keep their own council in the North. As the Targaryen civil war breaks out, the current leader, Lord Cregan Stark, chooses to support Rhaenyra Targaryen and the Blacks with the Pact of Ice and Fire.

Though House Stark was the most important house in Game of Thrones, we’ll see less of them in House of the Dragon, or at least, we’ll less of them to start with. The Starks remain largely faraway and on the sidelines until late in the Dance of the Dragons (131 BC), when Lord Cregan forms an army to march on King’s Landing. The “Hour of the Wolf” is an important stretch of the war, but we won’t get to it until late in the game.

Where is House Targaryen during House of the Dragon?

The Targaryen family is the central focus of House of the Dragon. They begin the series at the height of their power, but the coming civil war will bring them to a low point from which they will never fully recover. Fans will see House Targaryen rip itself to pieces over the matter of succession. King Viserys has chosen his daughter and eldest child Rhaenyra to be his heir, but his second wife Alicent Hightower would rather it be her son Aegon II. When King Viserys dies, the realm will bleed.

We’ll get plenty of face time with the Targaryens and their dragons, which are plentiful at this time. There are 17 in all, nine of which we’ll meet in the first season. This is the Targaryen’s show.
