The Sandman is currently the most popular TV show on Netflix, racking up an impressive 69 million hours of watch time in just two days. It’s also on the Top 10 shows list on Netflix in 89 countries. If Netflix needed proof that the show deserves a renewal, that’s reason enough. While a second season isn’t confirmed yet, scripts are being written, and the cast and crew are already teasing things to come!

The 10-episode debut season of The Sandman covers the first two volumes of Neil Gaiman’s comic series: “Preludes and Nocturnes” and “The Doll’s House.” These stories are merely the tip of the iceberg. The core story of the Sandman spans 10 volumes, plus a prequel graphic novel and several other comics set within the wider “Sandman Universe.”

So what can we expect from season 2? “Dream is going to open a restaurant and become a Mexican wrestler,” Gaiman revealed to Newsweek. He’s joking, of course, but I would like to see how that would go down.

On a more serious note, Gaiman explained that season 2 will begin with another Dream-vs-Lucifer face-off. “We just carry on with this story. That’s kind of marvelous that anybody who has seen Season 1 … when we tell them that Season 2 [is] going to begin with the big Lucifer-Morpheus rematch they get very excited.”

In episode 4, Dream enters Hell in order to reclaim his helm, which had been taken by a demon named Choronzon. In order to win it back, he must defeat Lucifer Morningstar (Gwendoline Christie) in what is known as the “Oldest Game,” and it’s pretty epic. See for yourself:

“Little do they know what’s going to happen and that they are simply not prepared for where it’s gonna go,” Gaiman added. If you’ve read “Season of Mists,” you do know where things are going to go, and it goes somewhere very unexpected and entertaining.

Tom Sturridge (Dream) wants to tell the complete story of The Sandman

It’ll come as no surprise to you that star Tom Sturridge is totally down to tell as much of The Sandman as possible. “I just want to tell you the story as it is in the novels,” he told Newsweek. “We really have no idea about a second season so, annoyingly, our ignorance is true. But I just want to continue telling this extraordinary story because it goes to such unbelievable places.”

During our interview with star Mason Alexander Park (Desire), they teased that they cannot wait for the Endless to get together for a family meeting in the “Season of Mists” storyline. “I’m really looking forward to many moments in the comics, but seeing the family together for the first time in ‘Season of Mists’ is super exciting to me,” they said. “There’s something very Succession about the whole thing, and who doesn’t want to be the person making all the fuss at a dinner party!”

The Sandman is currently streaming on Netflix. Please watch it, because I’m desperate for another season.
