Brienne of Tarth, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard

As one of the purest knights in Westeros, Brienne of Tarth is about as close to Sir Galahad as Game of Thrones will ever get. When Jaime Lannister dubbed her Ser Brienne, she was the first woman of the Seven Kingdoms ever knighted.

Brienne’s ascension to the heights of her profession hasn’t been easy, but she was fortunate to be of noble birth and have a father who understood her non-traditional aspirations. She struggled in the patriarchal Westerosi system and had a tendency, through no fault of her own, to lose the nobles she’d sworn to protect.

After defeating Loras Tyrell in a tournament she became Kingsguard to Renly Baratheon, who was soon dispatched by Melisandre and Stannis’ murderous shadow baby. Next, Brienne swore fealty to Catelyn Stark, who was assassinated at the Red Wedding while Brienne was secretly taking Jaime back to the Red Keep. Brienne does achieve a measure of revenge, eventually killing Stannis.

Made Lord Commander of the Kingsguard by Lord Bran the Broken, Brienne is also entitled to a seat at the small council. As the head of Bran’s bodyguard and his de facto military advisor, she holds a lot of influence. She is sworn to Bran now, and that is her everything.

Daario Naharis, Commander of the Second Sons, Regent of The Bay of Dragons

As the wild card in this deck, Daario Naharis presents a big unknown in Essos. Tossed in the friendzone by Daenerys Targaryen way back in season 6, the heartbroken Daario was left behind in troublesome Meereen to act as the Regent of the Bay of Dragons and oversee the transition of power from the government to the people.

Of all the people who would be most infuriated by the assassination of Daenerys by Jon Snow, Daario would be near the top on the list. It’s conceivable that he, as the possible ruler of the cities of the Bay of Dragons, might assemble a great fleet, fill it with people ready to avenge the queen, and sail for Westeros with bloody revenge on his mind.
