The Expanse television series may be over (for now), and the book series may have concluded with last year’s Leviathan Falls, but we’ve not seen the last of the Belt and its denizens. At this year’s Gamescom Opening Live ceremony, the first footage was unveiled for a new Expanse video game that’s being developed by Telltale Games.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series follows Camina Drummer (Cara Gee) in her younger years, as she scavenges wrecked starships in the Belt and navigates the political pitfalls of her pirate crew. Telltale Games is known for making narrative-driven games where players are forced to make difficult moral decisions; they made a series of titles based on Game of Thrones back in the day. Feels like a perfect fit for the gritty world of The Expanse.

The first footage shows some really interesting gameplay concepts, like using magnetic boots to stick to different surfaces in zero gravity. Combine that with having to make tough calls like whether to space someone we’re assuming is Camina’s former captain out an airlock, and it looks to be a pretty compelling ride.

The Expanse star will return for new video game

Topping it all off, The Expanse actor Cara Gee returned to voice Drummer in the game. “It’s actually been a really interesting thing as an actor to explore some of her more vulnerable sides, that by the time we meet her in the series, they’ve been cauterized,” Gee said during the reveal video at Gamescom.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series is slated to release in summer 2023.
